Parent Letter

Dear Parents/Carers,
I hope you had a lovely, restful half term!
I am very excited to start the summer term of the school year. I have attached our curriculum map which outlines what your child/children will be learning this term. In English, the children will be continuing with ‘Monsters: An Owner’s Guide’ by Jonathan Emmett and Mark Oliver.
In Geography we will be learning about hot and cold places in the world and comparing it to the Duxford area. In Maths, we will be learning about fractions. This half term the children will be learning about RSE (relationships and sex education). The content taught will be age appropriate and cover the national curriculum aims. This term P.E. will be on Tuesdays and Wednesdays- Starlings do have forest school this half term on a Tuesday. Children will still be required to attend school in PE Kit on these days. Please make sure that children wear the appropriate clothing for all weather types for Forest School.
Please ensure that your child/ children have appropriate P.E. kit and that, for health and safety reasons, earrings are removed for P.E and that anyone with hair longer than shoulder length has their hair tied back. Please ensure children bring a named bottle of water to drink during the day and that all uniform is named to avoid things getting lost. Children will be sent home with their optional home learning task which they may choose to complete in addition to the required home learning tasks.
In year 1 and 2, children are expected to read for 30 minutes a week. Please remember that we will change children’s rhino reading books once the children can read them fluently (without sounding out) on a Friday. Year ones are also expected to complete 30 minutes of numbots a week. Year twos are expected to complete 30 minutes of timetables rockstars. There are also learning resources for a variety of subjects on Starz if you wish to do some additional work with your child/ children. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me via the school office or at the door at drop off or pick up

Kind regards,
Mr Jonathan Yarde-Leavett
