Duxford school has strong links with its local churches in the surrounding catchment villages of Duxford, Hinxton and Ickleton. These villages and churches fall within the Diocese of Ely, at its southernmost part, and in Key Stage 2 the older children visit the Cathedral for a special day trip.
Duxford itself is a three-church village – there is the Duxford United Reformed Church, the parish church of Duxford St Peter, and the beautiful redundant (but still consecrated) church of Duxford St John.
On Fridays members of the wider Christian community in the villages take weekly assemblies on a rota basis around a shared theme. The school comes to St Peter’s church for an annual carol service at Christmas time; services at Harvest and other significant times are held in school.
Every year the school and local churches hold a ‘Church/School Day’ at which the whole school comes together and spends a day exploring some aspect of the Christian faith. This has included spending time in the churches on craft and reflective activities, visiting the URC and parish churches in Duxford exploring ‘How does God talk to us?’ using the structure and distinctive style of each church, the stories of Isaiah’s Temple vision of God and of the young prophet Samuel and exploring the Lord’s Prayer, the parables of Jesus, and visiting the church in Ickleton.
